Our not-for-profit organization has obtained the former Fairbanks Elementary School located in Fairbanks, Indiana.  It is now a community center.  We have many volunteers who put in many hours per week cleaning and fixing problems that arise in a 96-year-old building. 

 Our community center holds all types of functions for the community.  This past winter, we held dodge-ball games on Saturday late afternoon into the evenings.  Approximately 260 children & adults played.  We also have a volleyball program, shuffleboard, baseball/softball spring training, an exercise room, an indoor batting cage, a library with over 1000 books and encyclopedias, a game room, and a historical room with photos and trophies from the former school and community.

We hold dances for the kids, a women’s self defense seminar, we have walkers who use the gym in the winter to keep in shape, and fundraisers such as a fish fry, bean dinners and this last summer (2007) we held our 1^st, of many to come, Kansas City BBQ Society BBQ contest where teams from 6 states came for a weekend of competition. The same weekend as the BBQ contests we hold out annual Wanda Chambers Memorial Baseball or Softball tournaments. The Fairbanks School Alumni Dinner is held in our gymnasium every year.
